We Serve.
The Centerville Lions Club was
chartered on February 20, 1967 and has
been serving the people in and around
Centerville Georgia continuously since
then. We meet at 612 Houston Lake Road
in Centerville, near the Post office.
Our club has over 40 members and we
continually seek service minded
individuals to experience the pride of
being a Lion, satisfaction in helping
others, a commitment to carry out and
accomplish community goals and
fellowship in the largest service
organization in the world. Membership is
by invitation and any person 21 years of
age or older, with good morale character
and a good reputation may be granted
membership in the Lions Club.
Our Mission - "We Serve", this is
the Lions official motto. Since its
inception in 1917, Lions Clubs
International has been dedicated to
helping those less fortunate in their
communities and around the world.
Cutting across all national, racial and
cultural boundaries, activities have
included:
• Sight conservation and work with
the visually impaired
• Hearing conservation and work with the
hearing impaired
• Citizenship, educational, health and
social services
• Youth programs including drug
education and prevention, community
outreach and volunteer programs
• Diabetes detection and research
• Work for international cooperation and
understanding, including international
youth camps, youth exchange programs and
the Lions International Peace Poster
Contest.
To accomplish our mission, we hold
two meetings, one each on the first and
third Mondays each month at 7:30 p.m.
where we discuss the business and
projects of the Centerville Lions Club.
At the first meeting, our Club President
conducts business of the Club and
members participate in decisions on club
matters. The second meeting is Program
Night which is also a dinner meeting
when spouses and guests are invited to
join in the spirit of Lionism. The
program consists of interesting talks on
a variety of subjects given by guest
speakers from many walks of life and
professions. Members are urged to attend
all meetings and we have members that
boast years of 100% attendance. Excused
absences are always ok.
During the course of the year
there are four zone meetings which all
club Presidents and Secretaries attend.
Members are also encouraged to attend
these to show support among Lions and
their efforts. There are four district
functions in which all members are
invited; these include the Summer
Conference, and the District Rally.
Additionally the State Convention is
always a highlight of the year each
summer. |
